ACT clutch

Ok guys need help on this one.first hand experience would be awesome.
I have act clutch but I don't know what type.all I know it's single disc and it came with car. Now ,I like my clutch but the problem is that when I drag race ,sometimes I can't shift on high rpms.what could be done to eliminate this issue but keep act clutch.would monoloc help?.also I'm planning to keep my pressure plate just buy clutch disc.which disc I need solid,6 puck,4 puck ,sprung,un sprung? I don't care about stiffness or rattling.all I need is to eliminate lock outs so I can shift at 7000 without fear.i will not exceed 400/400 on mustang dyno so I'm not interested in twin.currently I'm at 360/350 on e85 and E9 turbo mustang dyno.thanks everybody.

If you on occasion go to the drag strip, do not get 6 puck. There's no feathering it just engages, like really rough. Do you no-lift or lift? If you no-lift make sure you press the clutch in prior to the shift...if you happen to release the clutch before it's in gear it will not go in, also if you force it in gear prepare to send you trans in soon. If you miss just forget about the pass, any miss shift is not going to yield a good time anyway. I also have a ACT with the street disc and oem flywheel. I use Red line MT90 in my trans that may help too.

Well NLTS is a big waste of time On a stock trans and a single disk. If you are that worried about shifting you should buy a face plated trans rebuild from Liberty. Then you can shift SUPER fast.

Batty I shift at around 7K.like I mentioned before the biggest ***** is from 1-2. Maybe you right about NLTS but it helped me to shave some times.ill take your advice you said in pm about disc choices.my car is not super powerful I'll give a try on act again since I have act pressure plate.btw is pressure plate interchangeable with different type of discs but same brand like ACT? Yet I'll put torque damper and stiffer engine /trany mounts. Before I spend $1.5 K on nice twin id like to this first.

Going from a street disk that hasn't scarred the surface of the flywheel or pressure plate you can check for flatness and if it is good just deglaze the surface and go for it. The pucked clutch will wear grooves into the parts. If the surfaces are warped which is common on stock flywheel make sure to either replace it or have it resurfaced. I would get the act Pro Lite flywheel to help with shifting. Although 7k rpm shouldn't be an issue at all. The new SynchroTech carbon Synchros might be a good idea to install while the teams is out. I bet you could shift like a boss at only 7k with them.

I don't recommend going to a lighter flywheel, the lighter the flywheel you have to ride/slip the clutch and pretty much change the way the car launches. When it comes to drag racing the first 60ft in critical. When I went to a lighter flywheel it took several times to learn to launch, I also thought the same that it would help. In the end I went back to the stock flywheel. But if you want to see what happens try it and let me know. This year I am hoping to get closer to the 10th spot on the Fastest stock appearing turbo with the Fp red BB the old school green 47lbs per min unit is runs out of gas on the back half.

I like the idea of lighter flywheel but because this job is budget minded I'll resurface the stock flywheel.can I put street pressure plate on race ( six puck sprung) disc?. I simply don't see why I need 500 tq pressure plate on 380 tq car.

Right but I'm asking if I can put my existing street pressure plate over the race disk and have good results.my car has 380 tq and I don't think I need more then 450 tq clamping force.

Yes it is available in that combination from ACT. It holds over 600 tq. It will be a harsh engagement and noisy as cam be but it will shift better. If it is a solid hug disk it weighs less and the pucked clutches disengage quicker.
