HKS 264 and 272 mix setup

I'm deciding on running aftermarket cams for my EVO and was wondering who is running this mix setup, HKS 264and272. Idling rough is not a concern to me but I'm wondering if the car stalls when approaching on and off traffic. I know the 272/272 setup does stall in traffic due to the character of being race cams, and that is the main reason why I'm not going to run it (unless this is not tue then I will be running them). Please provide me with some info. if possible. Also will I need retaining springs for the setup(264/272)? Any down fall for this the setup(264/272)?

It is -3 on both sides. I am running the Vishnu Stage 1+ and that is what they recommend. I put the cams and gears in at the same time so I have no comparision if it provides more power. Vishnu claims they make a significant difference. It pulls real hard from about 3500rpms all the way through the redline. It idles like a big block V8 which is really cool. Vishnu has stated that the XEDE reflash can make them idle a little better, but I love the way they are now.

If you are worried about stalling, just get cam gears and dial out some of the overlap of the cams. The increased overlap decreases the vacuum at idle, which causes the stalling problems. You can advance the exhaust cam or retard the intake cam to improve vacuum (decrease overlap).

FWIW, I run the 264/272 and I don't have any stalling problems.

are your cam gears made by HKS or Vishnu? and would the settings be the same... if they were Vishnu...how much were they?

Think Id be okay with the AFC, or need UTEC or Emanage?

the turbo spools slower, so you lose torque (in the lower rpms of course)

So just go ahead and get the cams installed and leave the cam gears stock?

I have the Vishnu cam gears which are a really nice piece. They have 5 lock bolts instead of 3 on the HKS.

As for losing low end torque, I would have to disagree. My car feels pretty strong every where on the powerband. I guess I could of lost some torque in the 2000-3000 rpm, but that isn't the powerband of the car.

with my 264/272, sprockets(-3) my torque went from 285 (without cams) to 324. that's probably what you're feeling jj008
