considering buying the HTA71. curious about how it was taking the hot side off of the oem turbo and putting the hta housing on.. has anyone done this themselves?

Loosen the bolt that holds the "gold" colored collar that keeps the two halves of the turbo together and remove it. When you go to assemble the turbo, you'll notice one side of the turbo has a very small dowell like pin and the other side has a hole to receive it. This pin will ensure the turbo is positioned properly, so once you've got both halves oriented and mated together, bolt the collar back on and you're good. Drive to RRE for a tune.

Its a piece of cake to install. I did the entire swap in less than 4 hours without removing the hotside from the car or without unbolting the 02 housing or downpipe.

Some people won't be able to do that. From working on various Evo's, I've noticed that the vband clamp that holds the turbine housing to the CHRA is not in the same position on every car. I would recommend that guys buy new spring washers, and a new manifold to turbo gasket in case they need to pull the turbo. The O2 housing can stay on...
