2.3 Stroker, to 2.0

Long story short, I know my engine doesnt have much life left (32k miles). The previous owner neglected oil changes with it, and I beieve there is some gas leaking past the rings and getting into the oil.

If the rings are still half-decent when I pull the motor and the sidwalls are okay, what exactly do I have to do to convert it back to the 2.0? Just install the OEM crank? Or do i have to change the rods and pistons as well? Is a .040 bore too much on the walls? (assuming it already has the .020 bore)

I will be running a different turbo, and whole valvetrain along with cams as well.

So I can still use my rods, but just switch the crank and Pistons?

Yes, the 150mm rods used for a 2.3L stroker are the same for the standard 2L.

Awesome, thanks guys.

What pistons do you recommend?

Anyone do any shot-peening or cryogenic treating to their internals?

I wouldn't tear the motor apart on hunches and guesses, but that's just me.

I'd rather do preventative exploratory surgery every time if the money allows for it then wait for something to keel over and die. Dying gets expensive quick.

If I were to run this motor until it "died", the rings will wear out to the point to where the piston itself will rub against the sidewalls and damage them, and the piston itself (which I can sell). New blocks are alot of $, I'd like to keep this one and just bore it to .040

I'm more into the reliability > power side of it as of right now
