2.4 LR - smooth as stock motor?

So I'm waiting around and thought I'd start this conversation

In my past DSM I had a Magnus 2.3 w/o balance shafts. It was allot of fun!

The problem was Magnus never mentioned the second hand harmonic vibrations or piston slap that would occur. The vibrations were bad enough to loosen engine bay bolts monthly....yet you could barely feel anything from inside the car. Even an aftermarket damper would not resolve the vibration.

Fast forward many more years than I care to admit and I'm enjoying my Evo IX with a green turbo. I recently upgraded to the 4.11 gear set and I'm thinking of "one day" going for a 2.4LR as my daily driver.

The question is, can a 2.4LR be built to be as smooth and quiet as a stock 2.0 If the goal is to stay at 500whp or below?

you can build with balance shafts and choose offset wrist pin pistons. it wont have the problems you had with the magnus engine.

Would you go with the 2.0 or 2.4 shafts?

Offset, I'm guessing you're talking about the wrist pin moving up 6mm?

I thought the LR configuration was the best rod ratio...

off set wrist pin means the pin is not centered in the piston. factory pistons are offset . offset pistons run quiet. centered make slightly more power and can be used in both early 4g63 and the evo 4g63. offset piston would need to have two different pistons. the offset can only be run in one direction.

sounds like the Dsm setup had stiff motor mount bushings. Just dont change the bushing, except the front , and it wont vibrate.

I left my balance shafts in, have 156mm rods with Wiseco pistons and it's pretty smooth.

Any piston slap and/or bolts vibrating loose over time?
