hks 272 powerband..

Just recieved my hks 272 intake and exhaust cams with ferrea valve springs and titainium retainers, my question is do any of you guys know where these cams stop making power, I was thinking setting my rev limiter to around 8600 rpms, but I dont know if they make power that far in the rpms...Anyone know...

HKS has them running out of power (or max out, its hard to read japanese) at 9000 or 9500RPMs (its on the manual).

Might as well go or gone for the Buschur Stage 3 head and get some forged rods!!! The stock rods are iffy after 8000RPMs.

Hey Badboy, I have never heard that about the rods, only thing that ive heard was that the valve springs where the only weak point beyond 8000rpms. Not to say your wrong, just something I may need to know more of before I raise my rev limiter up....

Mine would go through the stock rev limiter if they could. From 3500rpm and up things get interesting fast.

I dont think any tuner in this forum will advise you otherwise to go beyond 8000RPMs with stock rods (w probably the exception of RnR).

Most people who have been inside the EVO 4G63 that have seen the stock rods have all replaced them. Another tuner even advised me to change the pistons as well (though he said the stock pistons are well made and look durable, dont ask...).

I would raplace them if I were you. They are only around $400. Might as well add pistons for $450, and ARPs.

Another thing to consider is that the head as it sits stock does not breath well above 7800 RPM's or so. You would really need to have someone like Buschur open it up to really utilise that extra range. I also have different valve springs and retainers and wanted Shiv to raise my limit to 8500 when he was here. He basically said that he did not completely trust the stock lower end past 8000 and there was no reason to anyway due to the head restrictions. I think that the Buschur head work will be my next major mod followed by the internals and the turbo.
