how important is it to...

so, i have an OEM crankshaft, pistons, and rods i bought from someone. he didn't mark the piston/rods to correspond to the journal they came from.
if i measure side clearances, and they are good, then it's not really a problem, right? are they that inexact that it may be an issue?

I would measure bearing clearance. Side clearance should be fine.

definitely doing all bearings. just wasn't sure about the sides. i guess it's always better practice to mark them, just in case.
