What's the point of doing this?! Why not just get aftermarket cams that are designed for a VIII cylinder head

I fully agree, however, my current Kelfords cams decided to fail on me.
One of the exhaust cam journal surfaces crumbled...yes crumbled, and destroyed my head journal and cap surfaces in the process.

So, I have an opportunity to purchase a set of Tomei cams, but they are unfortunately for an Evo 9, and they are being offered to me at a bargain!

So, I've read of some guys machining the intake cam to get it to work on an Evo 8 cylinder head. This would be my most cost effective route to take.

I'd think it would be more to buy some then remachine. Also, I haven't heard the best things about tomei, I'd think kelford is more reliable. Was there an install error maybe? Or some other outside factor?

Tomei cams are awesome, there's nothing wrong with them.

Agreed, I have heard considerably more 'cam falling apart' stories from Kelford than I have from Tomei. Tomei cams are great!

Seen a few Cosworth cams "fall apart" as well. If they weren't on backorder or so damn hard to find I would totally run a set of Tomei 270 procams. That duration and 11.5mm lift would be amazing

Well, my Kelfords fails...!!!
A section of the cam journal surface collapsed and crumbled away.
The damage to my head is no joke, so I'm extremely reluctant to use Kelford again.

The only reason why I'm considering modifying the intake cam of these Tomei's...is purely price related.

So, can anyone advise on what all is required to make this work?

pretty sure I look at doing this. the stock evo 9 cams are aggressive compared to stock evo 8 cams. the nose of the 9 cams is smaller in diameter where it mounts to the gear compared to 8 cams. so it isnt as simple as just machined material off. I would recommend not attempting this.
