Best Clutch for 300WHP EVO?

I am deciding between the Exedy Hyper single-plate clutch ($939) or ACT Street Clutch Kit for Evo8 ($580).

I like to drag race once a month and want a cluth that perform like the stock but is stronger. Is the Exedy Hyper twin-plate clutch
($1249) needed for a 300WHP EVO?

My mods

SP Downpipe 75mm
3" UltimateRacing highflow cat
Hi power Catback 75MM
Buschur MBC
KN drop in filter
DYNO FLASH

I'm currently using a Clutch Masters Stage 3 Street/Racing clutch. It comes with a Exedy clutch disc. I've put over 25,000 miles on it, 5,000 or so are racing miles. It's still performing excellently.

However, if I had the money, I would definantly go with the Exedy Twin plate dude, it's a awesome clutch, I wouldn't pass up the chance to have one of those for anything. Personally, to save money though, I'd go with a Clutch Master, but that's just me.

You do not really need a hyper though until your running over 400 hp, the stock clutch is good for up to 400 or so I'm told (by technies at my Mitsubishi Dealer).

Good Luck with your choice.

I am running the ACT clutch and could not be happier, and I do the daily grind as well. I am not saying that the twin disk would not be good, but I have the ACT and am very happy with it.

I'm in the same boat. Can't choose between ACT or Exedy but I think I'll going with ACT do to the price. I heard they can withhold up to 400-500 lbs tq and that's all I need. From what I heard CC is only good for hondas so I'm staying away.

And by the way the stock clutch is not good for 400.

I just ordered an With a steel braided clutch line. Act seems to have the Dsm Market on lock. By the way I brought my parts fom the Lancer Shop. VERY HELPFUL. If any one is looking for a set of cams I think they may have a set Left.

I'm running around 300 whp, running the stock clutch it's holding good so far. If you want to upgrade though, I've had good luck with ACT. The exedy single is a good deal as it comes with the lightened flywheel, either choice you can't go wrong.

I am at 300whp and have smoked my stock clutch too many times already. I am too afraid of breaking the tranny!!! I am surprised that it still engages!!! I am looking at an ACT clutch...what clutch kit should I get. I go to the strip like once every couple of months.

I have the ACT unit with performance disc upgrade from RRE. These guys are super great and pretty much the one stop shop for everything you will need for this job. To top it off they will knock off $75 if you purchase a flywheel from them at the same time. My set up includes the ACT 2900 lb kit with heavy duty street disc (exedy), Fidanza lightweight flywheel (one of my favorite mods), Lancershop.com clutch exender rod and their metal shifter bushings, BG Synchroshift in the tranny, Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof to the front and rear diffs with some Red line LSD additive thrown into the mix. I really like it, ACT has got this thing down pat.

mitsu,

Why is your flywheel one of your favorite mods? I'm curious because I'm trying to decide if I need an aftermarket unit when I go to replace my clutch.

I did the same thing. I however did not get the upgrade clutch disc from RRE. I love it so far. 10,000 miles on it and no problems. With the lightweight flywheel you will get better spool and the RPM's just fly.
