Cracked Valve Cover

So, adding to the list of issues with my recent purchase, the previous owner somehow managed to crack the valve cover in which I am not able to even thread in the bolts to the coils. I have a used cover on the way that is in desperate need of being repainted, anyone have any suggestions on the DOs and DONTs of repainting a valve cover? Previous covers I just used Aircraft stripper and a wire brush but I've never worked with a magnesium cover before.

Send the new cover to get powder coated, magnesium is a *****

Personally I'd recommend detective coating, this is in the mail on its way to me now

I could fix the threads if the casting didn't crack, but its cracked in multiple spots like a spider web. I bought some high heat paint I was planning on air brushing it, but sending it in to be powder coated would be a better idea?

yes , powder coating lasts much longer with the heat, not to mention it will be fully stripped and cleaned up (magnesium basically wil corrode away)

SEND TO JUSTIN AT DETECTIVE COATING! (not trying to advertise, just giving contact info for who I go through) hes one of the best out there hands down. look him up on facebook (Detective coating) and as someone mentioned already, magnesium is ridiculous to deal with. don't chance it...leave it to a pro.
