Driving without ACD Pump installed for a few days

Rebuilding my ACD pump that has not been working and the solenoid broke which means I had to order another one and it'll be a few days before I can reinstall it.

Should I be fine driving without the pump, ie with the fluid line disconnected just for a few days, not doing anything radical with the car? I've been driving for a while without it working, which I understand is fine, but I want to make sure it's okay without the pump itself for a brief period of time.

I suppose it's just pneumatic fluid going to an actuator for the clutch pack, not lubricating the clutches or anything itself, so I feel like it should be fine but I want to double check.

Agreed. All the ACD pump does is activate the lock up of the transfer case to provide power to the rear. It hasn't been doing that for a while, it sounds. The gear set is still bathed in differential fluid. Just be sure to properly bleed the system when you reinstall the pump, so it can work effectively once more. You'll just have an extra fault code or two stored.

With the ACD not functional does the centre diff just work as an open diff?

Yea, and the car handles like **** lol. It won't hurt anything though. But I definitely would advise you to just cruise around and take it easy.

Ok, thanks. Next question: What's cheaper, replace the busted AYC pump or buy a used non-ACD transfer?

Idk, haven't had to consider that. I do know I would elect to fix the ACD. I've driven non-acd evo's, and the handling characteristics aren't as good.

The problem is my solenoid is physically broken off of the pump (don't ask).

JB Weld, rebuild and pray?

^I don't see that working but you could always give it a shot...looks like they have a solenoid if you cant find one http://www.acd-pump.com/#!product/pr...-reconditioned

I also bet there are many members on here who purchased a new pump and have their old one sitting on a shelf wit a working solenoid. Maybe try a WTB and cross your fingers or reach out to that company fork over the dough and call it a day.

yea I put up a WTB thread myself a week ago with no hits. $200 for just that solenoid seems kinda high but no choice since I cant find it anywhere else

Supply and demand my friend...maybe try calling them and see if they will play ball? Other than that you dont have many options unfortunately.

I wonder what happens to the pumps the Mitsu replaces when one fails? Maybe try calling a couple local dealerships and see if they have a busted pump chilling there?

FYI, evo X pump will have 2 solenoids that you can use.. just have to experiment a bit with the way they are oriented in the body... I did an e8 with evo X solenoid..
