I was driving my car today and as I got off the expressway I was hearing a whining sort of sound stopped at a red light. When I got home I turned the car off and the noise stopped.

I now tried starting it and it's not starting but I'm hearing the whine. I tried rocking the car back and forth in gear a bit and the noise will sometimes come on for a second or two.

I removed the ACD Pump while I'm rebuilding it. Car will not start. Any ideas?

Battery shows 12.7 volts and all accessories work.

 

The whine you are referring to is potentially your fuel pump. Most upgraded pumps are audible at a stop.

Now if the whine had stopped when your car stopped turning over, I would say that your fuel pump died, but since it didn't I'm not sure.

DO you have an upgraded pump?

Also I'm sure some of the other gurus here will have some better info. As far as I know, removing your ACD pump should not affect startup.

 

Well, I read somewhere about knocking the starter with a hammer. I had pretty low expectations, but honest to god somehow that worked. Something sounded loose or like it was being knocked around. I'll have to investigate further, but it doesn't explain why I heard the same whirring noise (assuming it was the starter) when I rocked the back and forth in gear.

Fuel pump is stock but I have a 255lph waiting to go in. Never heard the noise before but it did sound like it was coming from behind me.

 

Overrunning clutch got stuck in the extended position in the flywheel.
