Oil Pressure risen over time?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone might know what might cause oil pressure to rise over time. Everything held constant, it is the same at idle but has definitely increase cruising and WOT. Two months ago it was at about 90 WOT and now it is at 110. I'm losing oil and I'm thinking this is the cause.

Any ideas? And yes, I tried searching.

Thanks!

Hi,

Which Evo flavor do you have, 8, 9 or 10? Thanks.

What rpm are you at when checking oil pressure? It goes up with RPM. So if you looked at the gauge at 5500 last time and it was at 90, and you looked at it at 7000 and it was at 110, that's pretty normal...

Haha no I mean for the same RPM. For example, 3k used to be 80, now it is 90. I'm aware of the trend. I used to always be under 100. No change in oil weight, fully warmed up.

If you are using conventional oil it will thicken with time. Or it could be something going on with your oil pressure sensor. In any case the change from 90 to 110 psi doesn't seem enough to cause the engine to blow oil. Maybe you have a blowby venting problem.

What i'm concerned about is would a constant rise in oil pressure of this nature over time cause oil pump failure/oil loss?

How many miles on the motor? If you change the oil will the pressure go back down?

Maybe get your oil analyzed at blackstone and see if that reveals anything

Roughly 4k on the motor. I just changed the oil, same thing. I use Brad Penn 10w40 synthetic. I have a catch can, dry af.

If no one has an idea as to what might cause this, is there anything that can be done to relieve oil pressure other than dropping weight / porting the oil relief?

Thanks

When the engine is cold I've heard of oil pressure spiking to 150 psi. I don't recall seeing this in the Evo Owner's Manual but the DSM Owner's Manual had a warning concerning using a quality oil filter to avoid having it go pop. Anyway, are we talking hot oil pressure or cold?

Have you asked your engine builder? This has me curios. If it was my car, I'd probably be pulling the front cover/oil pump off to inspect things. You shouldn't gain oil pressure. Oil pressure actually shouldn't really change with use, and if anything it usually goes down as bearings, oil pumps, etc start to wear. But noticing a decline in oil pressure usually means there is a problem..

Trying to setup a time with my builder currently. Once again the pressure I'm mentioning is warmed up. I'm just trying to gather information to find a place to start.
