FP Turbo help
So I was looking to make 500-550 on E85 on the IX stock block and ive seen that the newer style SS housing FP turbos spool a little slower but they do make a bit more power. I was hoping someone could guide me on which turbo would best suit my goals. I know the Black obviously would but I know itll spool even slower with the SS housing. So I was wondering if I would be better off with one of the other two
Current mods
GSC s2 cams
ARP head studs
FP ported exhaust mani
FP Cast o2
injen intercooler piping
ETS 3in intercooler
TBE
grimmspeed 3port
walbro 450
FIC 1450 injectors
Thanks in advance

Thats totally incorrect. Boost =torque. Control the boost=control the torque. I Rode the 400tq limit for over a year with a taller 4.11 FD , track days etc.. Obviously good fuel, tuning and setup make a difference.
lonniee23, The newer housings don't have the transient response the twin scroll have. They are much laggier, and don't make as much torque down low. They also don't seem to make much more up top. If its for drag the new housing would be the way to go, but if you want a fun street car I would send them a good evo 8.5/9 core and have them build that into a red. Have them port the wastegate entry for better boost control.
My Red made 430-450whp on pump at 23-25psi. E85 was 500whp around 28-30psi. I ran my car at 500/400 on stock block/cams then later added a skunk 2 manifold and cranked the boost later in the run and made over 600whp.
I've got a built 2.2 engine now and make 625/485 dynojet. This is enough for me to run tens @132 on my 255-40-17 extreme DW street tires. This combo is still responsive enough for me to auto x, roadcourse or power slide in 2nd around a corner. Fun factor is high.
If you are going to do a 2.3 later then the black may be better choice since the larger crank will help it come on.

Yes that's what I was thinking. but I was afraid that with the SS housing on the black the spool would be frustratingly slow?
its not my DD and I don't care much for instant spool but I still want it to be fun to dive on the street

I would like to take it to the drag strip every once in a while but I will be driving it on the street on nice days. So from your advice im thinking SS red?

Since you're stuck with the SS housing, I would get a green. It will easily make 500whp on E85, and still make full boost at 4500. The SS red doesn't make full boost until about 5k on a 2.0L

That has always been my thinking since the SS turbos came out. A vband turbo kit with a 5858 or 6266 setup would be easier to work on, and probably make better/safer power thanks to lower back pressure. Or evem the new Gen 2 6062. And the the PTE turbo is way cheaper, about $750 less than the FP Evo 9 SS ball bearing stuff...lol. That price difference makes up the difference between a T3 manifold, and the FP cast stock frame mani.

The black is wayyyyy laggy for his power goals. Absolutely the wrong turbo.

I run a green with an mhi housing on my 9 now. I make 510whp on e85 with awesome spool. If you can get a good housing then a green would get you there and a red would give you a little room to grow.
For a mostly street driven car, I would highly suggest the green. It is a lot of fun.

Go green and don't look back, even the 71 hta is a candidate, but 500 would be pushing it.
