HKS valvespring retainer options?

Do HKS 4G63 valvesprings use the stock Evo VIII retainers? I got a great deal on a set of NIB HKS valvesprings, but they don't come with retainers. Seeing as how they're not beehive like stock Evo VIII springs I'm dubious that the stock retainers will work. Maybe they were for DSMs and earlier Evos? Anyone use these with stock retainers?

they wont work with evo alloy retainer. if you have to use heavy early retainer its doubtful they would be an upgrade from stock 8 springs

I was afraid of that. So look into DSM retainers if I want to use the HKS springs? I assume that's what these were designed for or pre beehive Evos maybe?

HKS makes two types of springs of very similar pressure rates, beehive and straight ones. If you are going to use beehive ones then you need to use the evo 7-9 aluminum retainers, if you are going to use the straight type then you need to use the evo 1-6 ones.

Both types have a higher pressure rate than stock ones.

what most dont understand is spring controls movement of parts that are moving. valve, spring weight, retainer weight, keepers, and rollers. make one heavier and you need more spring pressure to control it.

stock 8 retainer is 4 grams
early big ones 14 grams
even early titanium is 9 grams

early seat pressure 62 lbs
evo 8 seat pressure 52 lbs.

evo 8 setup is superior as it controls far less weight. every moving parts was made lighter. results in less friction. less heat. more reliable power

From my experience earlier dsm spring pressure is a bit less than later evo one. Here is a test on spring pressure : http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/val...crower.440147/

Also, the lighter the valve train the less spring pressure it needs to be controlled. The lighter valvetrain allows for faster revving and more usable rpm. Every gram you shave off the valvetrain is aproximately 50rpm gained.

An example in weight difference : http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/evo...inside.393646/

my 62 52 numbers came direct from dave at buschur racing. you can even compress them in your fingers and clearly evo springs have less tension.
