For injectors the greddy 720cc should be ok. It's just personal preference really but I don't care for the fic/pte Delphi type the Nippon denso 660 and 720 are nice because they fit like stock and are pretty easy to get the latency and scaling nailed down in a few trys.

Thanks for the information. Do those injectors match the Evo stock in terms of high Z or low Z ? No messing with resistor packs etc? Do you have latencies and scalings for them? Evo 8 Mr 05 96940011 ROM here so needed for that.

I have seen 450 microseconds quoted for the 720. scaling is more car specific and everyone has their own preferences I like to watch the wideband and scale so the fuel map matches the wideband others scale just using the rated number.

Parts are all in and going on the car. New oil cooler, oil line to turbo, 71HTA with 84 mm cover plus 84 mm FP intake boot. Flushing engine twice before installation, removing and cleaning oil pan as well before.

TO Aby, i will try to take pics of the custom exhaust while the car is on the lift tomorrow or i'll have James take the pics.

Once everything is together, we will retune to 23-21 psi, monitoring the AFR and knock up top. IF warranted i'll spring for larger injectors. I'll see if i can get a VD graph once the tune is done.

NOTE on stock injectors, with Walbro 255. Plenty of threads earlier that indicate stock injectors and Evo 9 turbo good to about 350 without large injectors We will see on my car with the 71HTA.

Cant wait to get it back !!!!!

At what duty cycle and which fuel? My rule of thumb is taking the size of the injector and dividing it by two to get a safe IDC on 91oct. Stock injectors are 560cc? That would be 280whp. Not sure how much more power 93oct would make, if you are using that, or if you went a little crazy with IDC.

word.....heh...yah California 91 Octane for the loss....sorry bout that..... Slightly off topic but I have in the past used some of the 110 octane booster. Works but leaves orange-brown deposits, just like what 94awdcoupe was describing in one of his turbo threads. I stopped using it and lowered the boost/changed the timing to cure the very minor 1-3 counts of knock above 6500....

So first issue in the fitment.... FP 71 HTA for the Evo 9 DID NOT come with the actuator and the FP WGA didnt appear to be listed anymore. the Forge WGA from my EVO8 MR 10.5 may not fit the 71HTA evo 9 based turbo. Prolly have to order the Forge for the Evo 9. $ 200 for the WGA...

Forge Website lists the 3 spring collection for that for $20. Red is close to 23 psi but i think we will use the blue ( up to 18 psi ) to allow mid range WGDC.

I use Torco Octane booster on track days ONLY. I don't tune for it.. it's "just in case". Unless I'm on e85, that is (of course). It does leave a residue, but I haven't had any ill effects from it

You bought a full turbo and it didn't come with a WGA?? That's odd. Does the ad say it does? What does FP say? I called when i got my 18psi WGA. I do not believe they were listed on the site. I prefer TurboSmart, but live in CA, so...
The VIII and IX comp housings are different. Assuming you have a IX 71HTA, then you will need a IX WGA. I found this all out the hard way LOL. I had the opposite problem: I had a IX TurboSmart WGA from an old MAP turbo, but my 71HTA had an VIII comp cover. Bleh. But yes: you will need the IX WGA.

You are correct, Kaj. IX based 71HTA is what i ordered. FP doesnt sell the VIII based 71HTA anymore, only the VIII based center section with the TIAL exhaust wheel. And that doesnt have the larger 71HTA compressor wheel or any cover or any wga. That is why I got the IX based 71 HTA. And yes it didnt come with the WGA. Ad doesnt say it comes with in closer inspection. And there is no option for the wga in the ad.

It does have the 84 mm cold side cover though. I had to order the IX install kit for the VIII and the 84 intake pipe/tube from them.

SO if anybody asks, it is ~$1100 for the 71HTA now the way FP sells it to install in an VIII, including the oil line . If you have a IX already, then you wont need the install kit and the oil line . Forge WGA for the IX is $200 plus the spring kit $20 directly from Forge in Orlando.

FP does sell the 71 HTA for the Subies AND that has option for the wga. Comes with the 84 mm cover. Guess we Evo guys get screwed again....:-( HAH LOL but the hot side is only 8 cm though....

Bright side...51 lbs air 71HTA >> IX >> VIII 42-44 lbs

The shop got the engine flushed today and the new oil cooler installed, as well as the intercooler flushed out and the oil pan cleaned and re-installed. Just waiting on the WGA to complete the install. We will use Brad Penn oil for the final fill for the engine

Full Diaqueen fluid for tranny, transfer case and rear diff in progress. ACD pump to be bled.

Exhaust pics , HFC pic and 71HTA pic still in box. Yes the downpipe is wrapped w DEI wrap. And HFC is ceramic painted ( 2000 degree ) to retain heat in the exhaust flow. Muffler section has large radius bends to reduce back pressure. Exhaust has been on car for 8 years. HFC ~ 1.5 years.. No codes. Sharp eyes will see the spacer for the rear o2 sensor. It didnt need it to pass, but that spacer gives more clearance to the body for the o2 sensor than just sticking straight out from the mid section pipe.

Stay tuned..I'll post more as we progress...

Yes it is squeaky clean underneath for 101K miles :-) Georgia for the win

Did you call FP and ask them for a WGA? It wasn't on their site when I got mine, I had to add that specifically.
I do, however, think they said they were almost out? It's been a while, so I could be mistaken. But I do remember them having to look for one and call me back to let me know they found it.
