Have you maxed the black out already power wise 650/680whp?

I'd stick with the MHI for better transient response/torque on a street car.

You would gain some power up top with an SS housing but its still going to be limited by a small turbine wheel. If you want something that will go to 10K like a champ and pickup alot of power then a T3/T4 kit would be going in the right direction.

Just depends on your goals.

I regret the SS Red. I stopped driving the car for the most part because of it. Stay with the MHI housing.

I would also suggest a switch to S3's. S2's are designed for around 600hp. S3's will probably be 25whp+ gain at this level, and you can rev it higher, especially with the higher flowing single scroll hot side.

Also, is your wastegate dumped or recirc? Waste gate dump would also help at this level.

I would say if the car doesn't have an O2 dump to with an O2 dump and S3's. You'll probably pick up over 50whp.
My wastegate is currently dumping to atmosphere. I was having some issues with the supplied FP Gate; Just today I decided to keep the MHI housing and purchased a turbosmart 26PSI wastgate.. Hopefully this will help hold boost at the higher PSI' I was running.

I hit approx 620whp Dynojet with the turbo before. I was having difficulty holding the higher boost levels (37~psi) throughout the gear. The wastegate seemed to be the problem, so I just picked up a new one today and were going to give it a shot.

Thanks for the insite. I already regret the lag in my black sometimes.. The car was more fun I think back when it had like 400whp~ .. But being able to have 600whp+ available is fun too..

unfortunately you need more than 2 liters to have the torque for fun and still be capable of the big numbers, and I havent found a good awd platform that a mere mortal can afford that can take a twin turbo ls, except for a full size truck.

I'll sell but not trade, I have probably less than 1,000 miles on this one. It truly has me at the point of getting rid of the car after 11 years of ownership.

I've ridden in three, high-hp Evos. Not impressed. I expect our cars to be lively, fun, and agile. None of that was going on. It Felt like my old Hondas: nothing....Nothing....ruuUUSH ...shift. 😂

The three people I rode with all sold the cars to get something more fun to drive. LOL

Sell the red and get a smaller turbo. Sounds like you want a Blouch 1.0, or a 71hta.

Why not just go back to an MHI housing? The RED is plenty responsive and can still make over 600whp at high boost. It starts making power as soon as you get on it.

To the OP, Do you have a dyno graph you can post? The black at 37 should be well over 600whp on good fuel.

FWIW, I have a 25psi actuator with medium preload and can make 34-36 @8000 if need be on my Red/MHI setup.

On my old 2.0 I could make upper 30's.

Have you measured back pressure?

He would need to find an MHI housing for that. Prob wouldn't be too hard.

downpipe is different also. i can understand its a hassle switching back, but not bad compared to selling the car.

Just based on this^. I feel you made the right decision. (Between the 2)

You can always look at extracting hp throuh the tb/head/cams

Or look at efr series turbos, if that doesn't do it for you.

I want OEM and my old exhaust setup back the way it was before cutting anything or a 2.3-2.4l

But I also have other hobbies and means no time or money is going towards the Evo anytime soon.

Currently have an MHI BB FP Black; thinking about moving to a JB SS Black-81kyodw.jpg

The car is on flex fuel.
