I think the intake pipe on the AEM throws off the MAF readings. I don't think you should use any kit with a hard intake pipe unless you have a SAFC or something to override the stock ECU's A/F ratio data. I've seen several dynos showing hard intakes causing a power loss on Evo's without fuel management.

Stock.......It has been reported that the oil used on a K&N will mess up your MAF sensor wires, and I have also heard that a AEM will mess with the readings on the MAF....spend your money elsewhere IMHO

Evos do not use a "hot wire" style MAF. A little filter oil will not affect it unless you over oil it. I use a K&N panel drop in and have not had any trouble. The drop in will make almost the same power increase as a full cone style filter. Cone style intakes such as HKS racing suction must be tuned since they will make you run lean in the midrange.

SinCityEvo, I have read numerous conflicting reports about filters. I am running complete stock, 1200miles, 3 weeks. I have used K&N on other vehicles with noticable improvements. You have not seen any negative change adding the K&N panel? Is there a noticable sound difference from the stock filter? Thanks

neither

i wouldnt do either unless you plan to do supporting mods like a dynoflash or superafc and do those mods first! my K&N typhoon made my car run down on boost and surely down on power. it made the car run lean which then made the anti knock cut back for detonation and it cut back the boost... was cutting mine back to 14lbs..... anyway i took it off and all problems went away....

You can't go wrong with a K&N panel filter. It's a no brainer. Yes, I would support it with other mods like exhaust and reflash, but it's a good first mod. Dynoflash back last year did a before and after on a dyno with the panel filter and showed a 5 to 7 WHP increase.

A cone style filter does need to be tuned to get max benefit out of it, and you do run a little lean above 5500, but a drop-in is fine w/o tuning, but you should get a flash. I did not feel a difference in power with just this mod, but immediately felt better throttle response with it and that alone is worth it.

James, full exhaust including catback and downpipe if you want to stay legal, boost controller and reflash are a great start. And don't forget a boost gauge. You will get nice gains with those few mods.

SinCityEvo, thanks. as for staying leagal or not it really doesn't matter to me, the only thing that does is if i do not have a catback then i do not want it to be to dam loud. anyways. as of now i really can't afford to get an exhaust, but i may be able to get a boostcontroller. what would be one of the best and easiest to use boostcontrollers for a car that i am going to race but also beable to use for an everyday driver.
thanks

MBC are all about the same. Some have nice features, some are pain. The Joe P is a good one, the hallmans are all good, it's a matter of choice. They are all under or around 100 bux. The Hallman Pro RX is the one I'm ordering. Comes with two tensions springs and ceramic ball, for around 100.

Best of luck! Oh, and BTW, K&N drop-in panel filter is my suggestion as far as intake.
