I'm comparing e85 tune to e85. It used to.spool 200ish RPM sooner.

I just checked my charts from my IX with a stock block/cams, 71hta, and E85. Sees 20psi at 3150rpm

wow. That's awesome. Mine was close to that..but not quite. Such great turbos.

This thread makes me feel better about my Green, though.

Wow! I have a lazy hta71 then, but even my lazy turbo doesn't feel laggy at all!

Maybe my cat is why it's spooling slower?

Well I have a test pipe and a 02 dump. I did everything in my power to eliminate back pressure

Surprising how much a cat robs power and spool. But that just shows how good hta71 is since Green without cat still spools slower than hta71 with cat. But that's due to 68mm vs 73mm inducers right?

Was the original hta71 built with 71mm inducer? If so, I wonder if the 71mm inducer spooled like 73, so they made it smaller for faster spool. I think 70mm would be better for catless setup and maybe an extra 20 whp?

There is a lot that goes into slow spooling and the rt combination of parts and correct settings go a long way. Big cams set for all out power(retarded settings)--slow spool, Big turbo -slow spool, couple these with small displacement- slow spool. Poor timing- slow spool. Put all this in a single package---slow spool, and the list goes on and on..

I hate living in CA. I think having a dump tube would do a lot to help my situation. As much as I dislike the sound, though..

I was thinking about a dump tube to a small cat that Y into pipe before muffler. Just need to figure out how far to put the cat where it will heat up enough that can be mounted on our cars. Then there is no new sound.

Or even weld dump tube to 3" pipe that connects to same cat should help by providing extra volume for exhaust before getting choked by cat. I had this Japanese TBE on my 02 wrx and it made more power than most on market then (it wasn't 3" but it was separated pipe from O2 housing).

A divorced downpipe is as close as you will get to that, without being so complicated.
The point of an open dump is to relieve as much pressure as possible. If I'm going non smog-compliant, then it's going to be open, not kinda-sorta open.

I just found out there is a zero tolerance for street racing in my city. Stupid kids with their cameros and mustangs racing everywhere and doing donuts in parking lots are ruining it for everyone. I bet they will start checking cars for exhaust db and wouldn't be surprised if they look into modified cats next. I can't use O2 dump and must have a cat. With E85, I should easily pass smog every time.

E85 doesn't help pass smog.

I thought E85 passes sniffer test easier?

"Easier", maybe under the right circumstances? I was curious had a local shop test my car on e85, and it didn't pass. I don't remember which reading was off (it was quite a while back). This was with a test pipe, though.

With a test pipe, I don't expect it to pass. Lol
But I have HFC, so I should easily pass (in case cops want to test my car on the spot). I will reinstall my stock cat to make sure I completely pass my smog check.
