Regular Lancer engine block in an evo8?

So I'm soon going to be working on rebuilding an engine block for a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution 8 and was wondering if the 2004 non-evo Lancer engine block would be compatible with the evo8? I can't find a direct evo8 engine block for less than $4,000 since blowing the engine block is a popular thing to do in an evo8 so I've heard. If anyone could give me some tips on ways around blowing 4 - 5 grand on just an engine block I will love you forever

Where can I find a bare block for 800$? Because if I could find just the bare block, that would be wonderful

when you say engine block do you mean bare block or short block, which is block, crank, rods, pistons?

sorry for late reply, but as I've done more research on my evo, it looks like I'm going to need a short block instead of bare.

Yeah, an assembled short block is going to run you $4-$5k from a reputable builder if you don't have a core. Or you can find an OEM one for about $3200.
