The 4g64 block is fine, and is a good option. You just have to take the extra steps like oring'ing the head, adding oil squirters for the pistons, and timing them is a little more complicated then just putting the belt on. Also, the taller deck height somewhat complicates the install of most turbo kits.

I'm a big fan of the 4g63 block, it just works and alot of people use it for high hp setups. If you have a good machine shop they should be able to get the 4g64 block oringed correctly.

The 4g63 with 94/153 makes the most sense on paper and its the path I chose. Carrillo makes a strong, lightweight steel rod. No headgasket issues and a can rev to 9200-9400ish IF you have enough turbocharger. A shelf 150 rod and 94mm crank will still rev to 9000ish if you want to save some money.

Getting the car to shift above 8500 also becomes a chore so keep that in mind if you are trying to rev it to the moon. The oil pump also needs to be addressed at that rpm. An ER oil pump gear is a good step to slow the pump down.

The 94/150 will be the way I go in my 63.

Im actually more on the side of a 4g64. There are a lot of good shops in the area or close enough. I am for the 64 because it will minimize the down time of my car, and because of that to me it makes sense that with the 6mm deck height to go 159mm rods since you went to 153mm. There are some small things that I am going to do differently to the block that would work better with a 64. I currently plan on getting the ER oil gear, but depending on how loud the magnus (?) dry sumps are, i might go with one of those. Im hoping to do some things that most other builds havent, but those are just hopes.

Another question: Ive been looking around more about head gaskets and what is the consensus with the right amount of squish (or quench) that people are running for good results? Since the 4g64 is supposed to have HG sealing issues, I would like to get this right the first time.

I have the new cometic that's +0.040 and it's sealing great so far. Looks basically like an OEM MLS but bigger bore.

I'm also a fan of the 4G64 because I can get a new block for $100 at my local JY amy day of the week. Try finding a 4G63 to build...

I've run the cometic on multiple 2.4's with 0 issues.

Yes, it is an issue. Why do you think English Racing decided to use a 153rod/94crank in the 63? Because the pin height or the 156 rod causes problems. The 162/94 combo in the 64 is just as problematic because the pin height is the same as 156/94 in the 63 block.

actually I was just commenting on your insistance on custom pistons being that those pistons are available off the shelf. Pin location is another matter alltogeather and is engine builders decision..
