Already replaced rubber washer. The paint is chipped underneath the washer. Paint was stuck to the old washer i replaced. What shouldn I do?

 

Did you verify the valve cover gasket is fine around that area of the bolt as well?
Maybe just apply small amount of RTV/sealant if you really did replace with new hardware already.

I pulled the washer off and snapped some pics. Then reinstalled. Fingers crossed.

You need to replace the gasket. It's letting oil through, which is going up the bolt, and out from under the head.

 

Thank you so much! Thats what i figured. Just didnt want to repalce it and have it leak still. Wasnt sure of the cracked paint was causing it or not.

 

I still have the original gasket on my nearly 15 year old car. Left undisturbed the gasket adheres to the head and cover and maintains a seal even as the gasket shrinks and the fasteners loosen.

Since you have a leak you might try tightening all the fasteners. Caution, the correct torque is only 31 inch pounds which is almost nothing. Going beyond this risks cracking the cover.

 

Ill give that a try. I am lloking into repalcing it. Trying to decide if i want to go OEM or aftermarket.

 

My car is not running stock boost lbtw.

 

That has nothing to do with the valve cover sealing.

 

Ordered new OEM gaskets from stm.

 

That should fix your issue. The valve cover gasket is what keeps the oil from making it up there.

 

Replaced the gasket and now my car will not start.

 

Fixed! Crank sensor promgs were not lining up right. Lil tweak and i was good to go.
