3-port boost solenoid recommendations?

i currently have a grimmspeed 3-port, which is fine and dandy and does the job great. i personally love that it's plug and play. but i'm not a fan of the flutter-style operation of open/close/open/close boost control. I have an open dump tube, so the flutter is very clear. i'm aware that it's normal and it's not harming the car. i'm just not a fan. can i please get some personal recommendations of 3-port solenoids that don't flutter? thanks!

Thats how a boost solenoid works. Thats how it regulates what boost referance the wastegate gets. Usually the fluttering can be caused by a BOV thats not tight enough.

They all flutter like that. It's because they are operated with a PWM (pulse width modulated) signal form the ECU. Basically the ECU is rapidly opening and closing it base don duty cycle. You can switch to a manual boost controller to and it won't flutter, but you'll lose the a lot of control over how much boost the car can make because you'll basically set it to spike what you want off the bottom, and it'll taper to whatever it wants to.

I'm not aware of any 3 port EBCS that does not use PWM. It's a digital method in controlling boost rather than relying on the spring tension of a manual boost controller against a bearing ball. I personally think it sounds awesome, like a rattle snake living inside the engine bay

Have you considered maybe a recirculating style dump tube to lessen the noise?

How embarrassing. I’ve been lied to. I’m now 99.9% sure I’ve been told someone without the flutter was running a 3-port solenoid when in actuality they were running a manual bleed style controller or maybe even just on the spring. I understood as far as the style of open/close operation to regulate the wastegate release pressure, I just wasn’t aware that the solid wastegate dump sound was from an evo that just simply wasn’t using an ECU controlled boost solenoid. Well, you guys taught me something today for sure!

and you’re right, if it doesn’t grow on me then I guess I’ll have to start looking into recirc downpipes. Le sigh. Some people are just so dodgy about releasing real information about their setups like it’ll compromise all of their secrets and “awesome” build techniques.

Lol, there are still secrets. Boost controllers aren't one of them.
