Transfer case. Casting mark, stress fracture or crack?
Opinion...I was going to buy a non acd transfer case off a member. I backed away from the deal. I ran my fingers and can also dig my nail in there. So does it look like a casting mark, stress fracture or crack? Just pissed I drove 3 hours to meet him and asked him on the phone if it was cracked or had any noises.

That looks cracked. You can buy that piece though. Find out what it costs and negotiate the price. But if its cracked there, it may have other issues as well.
TRE has lots of spare parts. I've sent a few tcase to him that needed various pieces of the case, he always seem to have it. But $800 is too much. That thing needs to be sent out and gone through. Good decision to pass on it.

Yeah I didn't even bother making an offer when I asked what best he could do. I was thinking more $400 to 500
Yeah, you can swap the viscous coupling parts with the ACD parts.
My concern with it being crack is what the ring gear and front diff have been put through lol. The open front diff in the non-acd tcase is notoriously weak.
It is kind of hard to tell if that's a crack. It certainly looks like it but usually cracks start at an edge, it's odd that it started in the middle like that. The only thing I could think of is that the material is a lot thinner there than on the outer edges of that piece.
Did you pull the inspection cover and look at the ring and pinion?
Other members saying $800 is a high price seems surprising to me. Have you guys shopped for Non-acd t-cases lately? $800 is a good price if still in good working order. Most good working ones are listed for $1100-$1500 and cores seem to be $400-$500.
That being said, the seller of this case should have obviously told OP about the crack.

He told me over the phone no cracks, noises or whines. Was a red flag not to buy since I saw the crack.
