Evo IV - Possible camshaft problem

Hi!

I have an Evo IV JDM with Evo VIII EDM ECU and I have a problem, with the cam position sensor, I suspect.

When I go WOT, the engine stalls and don't starts at least for 10-30 min later. I replaced the cam position sensor for an aftermarket one, but the car misfires and only runs 2 cilinder, and stalls in 3-5 seconds.

I don't know why the new sensor don't works, because I bought the same part number as the old one.

If it happened to someone, I will apreciate your experience resolving it.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Marc

check crankshaft axial play.. maybe the crank is hitting the crank sensor.. evo 4's are known for crank walk

Hi kikiturbo,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if it's crankwalk, because when I put the oem sensor, it works but at WOT the engine stalls, but cruises well.

Crankwalk can cause this without breaking the sensor?

Regards,

Marc

if the crank sensor is bad it usually wont start up again

maybe your car is out of time...or jumped a tooth or issues with valves not opening or being bent...bad head gasket...

1.check coil and plug
2.check to see if its on time
3. compression test it

Hi,

checked all. I think I found the problem.

When I did the ECU swap, pin 91 from Evo 4 is ground, but on evo 8 ECU is I/C Auto Spray, so I will try to ground the wire and see what happens, but I hope that this will solve my problem.

I'm 99% sure, because a bad ground can cause bad signal from sensor to ecu.. so crossfinger!!

Thanks for your replies and help! I will update on friday.

BR,

Marc
