Clunking sound when shifting?
ok, i did a search and didn't really find anything that described my problem 100%...
so here we go... when i shift a lower rpms, ~2-3000, i hear a clunking noise in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sometimes 5th. this is what i do to hear the sound:
press clutch
begin to rev match
as soon as i release the clutch to the 'catch point,' i hear a metallic clunk sound.
it happens after the car is warmed up. no complaints of notchiness or grinding.. just this farking metallic clunking sound. if the sound weren't there i don't think i'd have any complaints of shifting.
at higher rpms ~4000+ i'm fine, no problems. i've just recently begun reallly noticing the sound, so i'm not sure how long it's been around...
i was thinking of changing my fluids and installing the steel line.
but
will the steel clutch line void my warranty if the sound doesn't go away? what fluids should i use? i read, in my search, that buschur ****ed up their transfer case with some fluid?

I've got the same damn sound and I'm worried that may be my transfer case is going. I think because the spider gears aren't shimmed tightly together is was is causing this sound and why so many transfer cases are going prematurely
Mine has done this since I bought it. I think only going into 2nd at low RPM, upshift or downshift. I really don't think it's anything to worry about. Unpleasant sounds are part of the "charm" of the Evo

oddly enough, after i put my rims on on friday, i haven't heard the sound since. perhaps it had something to do with my bent stock rim on the front passenger side? who knows... i'll have to see if it comes back

All kinds of noise from tranny. But shift nice and slow, it feels solid. Shift at high rpm and it still feels fine. I keep hearing that our tranny is bulletproof, but sometimes it feels like it's weak and can't handle the power. I think our tranny is like a truck, makes lots of noise and clunk but strong as a bull.
Mine did it for 3 years now and nothing wrong with it.. although I changed all the syncros on the gear coz that was my fault but the gear is still solid.. So after a while you will get use to a lot of noises in the EVO and most are normal noise.. don't forget also the car is not insulated very well coz to keep it light.. so I don't care as long as nothing happens to it.
