Are you still on the 255 fuel pump? I can't imagine the Red making much more power up top with it than the HTA71. I think my 255 ran out right around 480 or so.

yep the 255 is maxed out. Putting in a Walbro 450 along with a rewire tomorrow. Remember, I'm on stock cams in an Evo 8. I made about 435/400 VD with the HTA71, 29psi tapering to 27. I'm still tuning, but I made 473/399 on VD with 28psi flat on the FP Red, with somewhat conservative timing @ 99% IDC. Wondering if I should send it on boost past 6000 to hit that 500whp goal. Or better question, should I leave it like that if I do? Starting to feel like I'm really riding razors edge and should dial it back lol

It pulls crazy hard once it spools up. Now my question is, how much boost is safe to run up top? I can tell that it will hold whatever boost you want it to. I'm on stock headstuds, wondering if it would be stupid to hold 32psi out the top? Need some opinions. I know if I encounter knock I'm asking for lifted head. Thinking about sticking with 30 to stay "safe"
Your car needs to be tuned on a dyno. And your tuner should be making the decision as to how much boost they want to run based on the power levels they're comfortable with. If you really want the stock engine to last, keeping the torque on the hit to below 400wtq and top end power in the 500-525whp range is what you're really going to want. Those numbers are of course for a dyno jet; on a mustang dyno that is setup correctly you'll be looking to stay below about 375wtq and being in the 450-475whp range.

Boost doesn't lift the head. Timing does.

I'm self tuning and looking at getting some dyno time in to get some MBT sweeps in, but using VD and flat road has actually worked really well at showing power increase per degree timing added. 500-525 stock head studs as well?

Definitely upgrade that fuel pump and get the tuning sorted! The current +40whp over the HTA71 isn't worth the lag, IMO.

You need to stop worrying about the stock head studs. You will fail a rod long before you lift the head as long as the tune is in check.

Needed to hear that. I'm just gonna stay on the conservative side, being how conservative with the Red makes a ton of power. Im enjoying more how it doesnt want to spool the second my toe touches the pedal. I can calmly cruise around town with ease, and hit the gas and boost when I want it to.

This may be the first time I've ever heard such a thing. :P Even with the stock turbo, I can drive around in vacuum all day.

That takes skill! Lol I swear that HTA71 spooled faster than the stock turbo. Or maybe it just made its presence known more easily than the stock one. I definitely see why you love that thing so much. Red just suits me better with my driving style and what I'm after, highway pulls etc.

The MHI Red is well balanced for these cars for street/track/fun. Going with the 450 pump and a proper rewire should allow you to max your injectors out and make around 470-500whp or so. You could also go with 1650/1700's if you wanted to make over 500whp.

If you are self tuning , try to keep it on the conservative side. You could also rent out a dyno for an hour and really dial the car in if you have a good understanding of ecuflash and tuning concepts.

Unless he was road racing, this is the only reason I see to go with a Red.

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback. I'm definitely gonna keep it more conservative, and reserve some dyno time in the near future. I'm hitting up the local subaru shop to use their dyno, lol. Hoping to hit 500 with these Injectors, but we will see.
