Where the F is the housing for the fuel temperature sensor? There's a few diagrams in the service manual that indicate that it's between the two service ports below the back seat, but there's nothing between those two ports except for some sound dampening. Do I need to remove the sound dampening? Is it mounted on the fuel tank and I need to pull the tank? (please god no)

Anyone else run into this issue and figure out what it was?

I did research and found two threads related to this vehicle with no resolution, hence this post.

Do you know if I can rely on the fuel tank schematics being the same between the Evo 9 and the base Lancers that you linked?

Cool, thanks for the diagram. Dropping the tank looks like a bit of a nightmare.

I'm logging the output in evoscan for the fuel temp sensor and it's hovering between 18-22 degrees fahrenheit (currently only seeing lows of 45 degrees here in AZ) so I'm kind of hoping that maybe there's a poor ground or something on the circuit. Guess I'll put it on jack stands in a few minutes and take a look around.

 

Did you figure out how to replace the sensor and fix the p0181 code?

 

The only reason I cared about the code was because I was running SD off of the fuel temp sensor. I just put a GM temp sensor into my intake and switch the reference in Ecuflash.

I might fix it eventually. If you're having the same issue let us know how bad the fix is, because that isn't really documented much on here.

 

You will need to drop the tank or cut an access hole to get to the fuel temp sensor in the tank. The tank def sucks to drop though.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but is anyone else dealing with this code? The shop told me they’re going to have to drop the tank to fix this issue and I’m wondering if this sensor is something that will affect the car. Because my car runs like a champ with this code on and if I don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for this repair I’ll just ignore it.

Any other info would be appreciated.

 

Bumping as well, as I just got the code for the first time ( we had a cold snap this morning, so I'm wondering if the large temp difference triggered the code ). Also running Speed Density.

 

Try and test set the bit to 0 in ECU Periphery3

 

In my particular case the p0181 was affecting my cars performance. Once the light came on for it I was running just a hair lean in wot. I checked my fuel pressure, fuel pump, injectors, as well for vaccum leaks. Fixed some issues here and there but didnt solve my lean boost problem. Ultimately did turn out to be the fuel temp sensor for me. Dropped the tank and replaced and am back to target afrs. I do have an iat sensor for my speed density setup so made me doubt that the fuel temp sensor was it initially. Perhaps the way my tuner set it up also utitlized fuel temp.
