Hey guys, I have a mr six speed and my shifter feels wobbly in neutral and while in gear. It has play, doesn’t feel tight when in gear or in neutral. Any help in what could be this problem?? Thanks in advance

have you checked the bushings at the shifter cables? There are 4 total bushings, one on each end of the shifter cables.

If all bushings, cables, brackets, and the shifter itself have no play, then the trans is on it's way out.

Only thing I have replaced is the bushings. Never replaced anything else. Not understanding what you are saying if there is “no play”. Everything shifts perfect it’s just there is slight play in nuetral and when in gear.

If the "slight play" isn't coming from any of the items I mentioned, that only leaves the trans. Start at the transmission -> check the bushings/shift mechanism on the trans for play (if the shift mechanism has play in it, that may be the problem) -> check the cable bracket -> follow cables to shifter assly -> check bolts on shifter assly -> check bolts on the mounting plate the shifter assly is attached to -> check play at the ends of cables where they attach the shift lever.
If you find nothing wrong, it's probably the trans.
Good luck! If it's the trans, then that sucks because they are super $$$ to have rebuilt (I have one in the garage that I can't afford to have rebuilt at this time )

This is caused by someone not reinstalling the plastic half Moon piece on the trans shifter bracket.

This is why I was saying to start at the shift mechanism. It would cause the symptoms you are describing. I think the 6spd also uses this part. Has anyone messed with the trans lately?

Not sure if it’s the same as for the six speed but I will check.
No, no one has touched anything. After the act clutch was installed last year it felt this way. I haven’t driven the car in about a year and now I’m back and it’s really bothering me. Besides all bushings being replaced that’s about it.

Should be something with the end of the cables on the trans end. Someone didn't install something right. Take a good look and compare with pictures, the FSM, etc and I'm sure you will find what happened. Have someone in the car moving the gear lever while you look. That's gonna be the quickest way to figure it out.
