5$ **** fitting ruined my entire block....
Ive read that cast iron can be TIG welded (its not easy but has been done). In this case, the crack is very slight.
Maybe that cracked hole can be filled w/weld & tapped?
Just a thought / Let us know how this progresses as you look into

How tight did you get that poor thing?
If the block is cracked you're not left with a lot of options. Try JB weld or actually TIG welding it are about all you can do. The way it's cracked there will be hard to make it not leak.

Oil filter housing. There's two 3/8" BSPT ports that are plugged that you could use to feed the Mivec (just remove the plug, then get the adapter fitting to 4an from STM). No need to use a sandwich plate. Yes, it being knocked off is the "only" reason, but it's kind of a big one.

sorry I've never seen one of these engines. What is this port for, does someone wish to more fully explain the context of these modifications, implications,
for if so I would be in your debt, no question

Yes but there is more to it than that. Somebody above said something about mivec oil supply etc... Where does this hole normally used for, why was it re-purposed, what are the other options,
what sort of hole is it, looks like a threaded hole in the casting of a block (strange) is the block aluminum? Those sort of holes frequently seem like they would strip or be annoying

is is a hole that is used for oil low pressure switch on older models and IIRC it has a NPT thread. On Evo 9 it is used to feed oil to the mivec variable cam control in the head and that used straight metric thread, in larger size. Block is cast iron. I will presume that the overtightened NPT managed to crack the block.
Problem is, to weld this up properly you need to take engine out and strip it to bits.. in order to clean it porperly.. It can be welded or TIG brazed. In any case I would convert it to straight thread as not to put in any additional stress into it after welding/brazng.

the real problem with cracks is they are bigger then what you can see and they keep growing. You really have to grind them out completely and weld it back up to fix the problem.
