Strange head noise (lifters issue)

Hello Evo mates

In the last few times I got my Evo on a ride, I noticed that a strange noise came out of the head. I am 90% that this issue has to do with the lifters. I installed GSC Power-Division ZERO-TICK Lifters. Although GSC claims to be Zero Tick lifters, they still cause noise. And another friend of mine installed the same lifters on his 9 and he noticed the same. I said 90% sure as I believe everything will become clearer (hopefully) as soon as I open the head and see what is really going on. Also, when the engine revs at 1.000 rpm a lot of vibration comes out. I noticed that when I touch the dashboard and hold the door while it is open. The head is running everything stock. Now I am thinking to buy the Ross Sport lifters (if the lifters are an issue) Link: https://www.rosssport.com/Brands/ROS...EN49-LIFMI6-16
I will try to upload a video but is not so helpful as the phone alters the sound.

It would be greatly appreciated to have a discussion on that issue if anyone knows something in more depth regarding this issue.

Cheers
Alex

I've seen a few people on the forums and in person that have had similar issues with the no-tick lifters. With that said I've also seen many people have success with them. Did you bleed them before you installed?
The general consensus seems to be to run the OEM lifters, but they're really expensive compared to the alternatives which makes it a hard sell.

Yes, I bleed them prior to the installation. I don't blame GSC at all, as I have not yet opened the head and we all know how trustworthy and reliable the GSC is. I will update you on that issue as soon as I remove the head.
Spot on! OEM lifters are double the price compared to aftermarket brands, a factor which makes it very difficult for someone to get them. That's why I have looked at other alternatives.

Need to hear the valvetrain noise.

While the GSC's are zero tick, you will still have valve train noise with most aftermarket camshafts.

If you remove the head, read this and check the specs on post #5:

Hey Evo mates

I am getting back to you to update you about the head issue. I have taken off the cover and I have found that an arm rocker was damaged and a lifter also. I was very lucky though that the whole engine didn't blow up. I had replaced the broker lifter and arm rocker with used ones in order to see if the problem will be solved in order to purchase the brand new ones and install them. However, the vibration issue was still there which lead me to the conclusion that I had discovered an additional problem to the existing one. Therefore, I had placed an order with parts to come in (i.e. the head gasket, new valve steams, new lifters etc) and I will take off completely the head to see what is going on and what is causing the vibration coming out.

Any recommendation/comment is more than welcome in order to bring some light into the tunnel. Please see the photo attached.

Cheers

Hey letsgetthisdone

I know, but this is what I found so far, I need to take the head completely off to see what is really going on and why this vibration is still coming out.

I will post more pics as soon as I will disassemble the engine into pieces.

Thanks
