they sell heat shrink that is compatible with gasoline, etc.

Even the chem resistant stuff doesn't do well with gasoline. PVC does great with ethanol, but not so much unleaded gas.

Another thing to check if you cut and solder the wires are the wire thickness. Are the oem wires just as thick as Walbro wires? I'll be installing a 525 soon, so I'll find out soon!

Walboro is 14AWG. OEM is like 16 or 18 awg so no.

I find it nuts that a Walbro 525 can draw up to 40A (IIRC). And only 14awg is used at the pump? I'm building 2 kits to rewire for 525 pump and plan to use 8awg from battery to hanger. I haven't decided if I'll just go to connector or about 1" shy of it, using oem the last inch. And yes, oem ecu will still gontrol the hi/low switching point, so we can program stock ecu to a later switch point.

Mine is doing fine with 10awg. No idea what awg the 525 is but my 450 looks like 14. They can get away with thinner gauge as the fuel cools the wire, but it won't really help much with voltage drop.
