Clutch housing mounting point

Hey all. Today I was inspecting around the engine bay on my evo and I came across this little problem. The mounting point on the clutch housing bracket has been snapped off somehow. I do not drive the car rough and I hardly beat on it. If anything I baby it.
Now I’m wondering if this housing is toast or can be repaired? The trans was built by jacks trans last year.

That's weird looking... is that a 6-speed? I have a 5-speed so I can only compare to that, but the 5-speed doesn't have any bolts on that bracket which require a nut. The threads don't even look like they're engaging on there... if you notice the broken part appears threaded but the bolt is a smooth shank. Did someone installing the transmission goof up and try repairing it with a another bolt?

This is the 5-speed bracket with the OEM bolts placed in it. None of them have nuts, all are M11 bolts. The bolt you have in the first photo looks smaller than an M11 to clear the thread and doesn't look OEM. Could be that 6 speeds have different bolts but that looks suspicious to me.

If you know someone who has equipment to weld aluminum, it can likely be repaired and re-tapped. I don't know much about aluminum repair but that would likely be cheaper than replacing the entire cover. If a shop did the install maybe you can show the damage to them, too.

This is a five speed and yeah it does look weird that’s why it threw me off? Is a bolt not supposed to be through there? I got the car last December. This was all the previous owner. It’s just one of the many surprises I’ve found since ownership.

Ah damn... that's disappointing. Definitely a difficult area of the car to inspect. There is supposed to be a bolt through there, but it's supposed to be threaded into the mount that's broken, not held together with a nut.

You can see the threads circled here, they are what should be engaged by the bolt. But instead, someone put a smooth shank bolt in there with a nut on the end.

The circled bolt below is the one that should be threaded into the broken portion, based on your pictures.

But as you see, there are two other bolts on the bracket that should be threaded into the transmission. Are those bolts simply not there? Are they loose? I would not expect the transmission to clunk around if only the one bolt were broken.

I don't even know how you break that portion of the transmission. Maybe whoever reassembled it had their air impact wrench set to "Subaru Crank Pulley Bolt" and blew the **** out of the aluminum.

Hey sorry I never replied! And yeah it looks like someone ****ed up pretty badly installing the trans or something. A shop here in dfw said it should be fine with 2 bolts in at the bottom. They said the trans won’t sag. But isn’t it crazy? How does someone even do that to a case is beyond me.

uhhhh... i dont know about that.

probably what happened was that the threads stripped, so someone put a much smaller bolt in there... and used a nut to secure it.

with the bolt not being the size of the hole, it kinda worked its way back and forth till it broke the shell.

i would think there is alot of "moment" on that bolt when on and off the gas.

if you gamble on not having that fixed, may break the bottom two off also.

It will definitely get fixed. I’m not going to keep it like that forever. I don’t ever beat on the car and haven’t launched it once since the past year I’ve owned it. Honestly the whole time I’ve been trying to get it up to shape so I can have fun with it and keep running into stuff like this from the previous owner. :/
