I think for 272's I just wanna be safe about it, plus it cant hurt

Wannarace: yea, I think Im gonna try Silver Surfers method.... 272/272 w/ cam gears set to -4/ -1 ..... I just noticed most people have "cam packages" that have cams, gears, fuel pumps etc.... but no optins for valve springs and retainers....

I never thought about the Bushure ones, THANKS also Quickshift!

Just had 264/272 installed by Buschur and did not change springs. I would look at theirs if I did though.

Quantum racing has a ferrea valve spring kit for $519 which include double valve springs, titanium retainers and locators. They also sell ferrea valves either stock size, or 1mm oversize for $320. Hope this helps

I got Buschur Stage 4 with 264/272 HKS cams and to the best of my knowledge, they did not change my springs and retainers. I would assume that they would have changed them if it was necessary.

Buschur told me that cam gears were not needed and that they did not recommend them. However most of the other vendors I talked to use them. I have read here on the forum that you can smooth out your idle with them.

Buschur did my complete setup and tunning and I definately notice that there are different cams in there now and the idle is a little lumpy but it is not bad at all.

If you are going for the sleep look, keep the timing belt cover on and nobody will know you have gears. And the gears will help with the lopey idle, but you sacrafice topend HP.

You don't need stronger valve springs for HKS 272s. I'd say that changing them out is actually more dangerous than leaving the stock ones in. You never know what might go wrong when working on the head.
