i was changing oil when a tech told me i should use mobil one 0 w 30 synthetic oil. anyone else use it? what is it good for? it did look alot smoother, i could tell it was lighter weight, but im not sure about it.
I have experience with Mobil 1 0/30. It's fine, we used it in our race engines & had no issues at all, even with oil in temps over 130C! We also revved past 16k. We saw slightly better lifter bucket wear in our F1 engines with the 0/40 which rev considerably higher. , so I put this in my car. my car has stock cams & it makes a lot of ticking @ idle. This is also my first
engine as well. So maybe this ticking noise is normal, everyone posts aboit it, so i guess its normal?
I am speaking only about mobil 1 oils.

Mobil 1 0w-30 is a good oil, and in the new "Racing" designation, is a little better.
The only qualm i have with Mobil's lubricants is their tendency to be on the 'thin' side for a given viscosity. The range of a 30wt motor oil at 100C is 9.3-12.5 cSt, and M1 xw-30 are ~10 cSt.
Is this a bad thing, probably not. But if you're going hard all the time, it might behoove you to thicken up a touch to the 12-13 cSt level.
ferb!
