JDM Evo 7 Engine Swap into '03 USDM Roller
JDM Evo 7 Engine Swap into '03 USDM Roller
Hello Gents,
Long time member and old owner of 2 Evos here.
Just picked up a almost complete roller that my son and i will be putting together for him as his first car. Of course i will need Engine, Tranny and TC to make the car complete, wondering if anyone has info on using a JDM EVO 7 swap into a USDM Evo 8.
I would of course use the Evo 8 Harness and ECU, just wondering if anyone knows the other differences that i would be aware of. We are actively looking for a decent Evo8 Engine or swap but if that doesn't become available i'd like to know if the Evo 7 route is even an option.
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S: Yes i searched but came up with no hit son this matter.

Some of the early Evo 7s had weaker connecting rods, food for thought if you ever want to make more power than stock.
You're also going to have to find a solution to put the Evo 7 ACD transfer case into the Evo 8 - unless it's a 2005, it won't be prepared for the system at all. You would need the pump & hydraulics, and get the Evo 7 ACD electronics play nice with the Evo 8 stuff.

As for the Weaker Connecting rods i don't mind as this car will be mostly stock with a few supporting mods.
For the TC i do have a spare NON ACD laying around that needs a rebuild, i would most likely do that and not have to deal with all that nonsense.
Any idea how the Trannys are on those Evo 7? Any difference from a base Evo 8 5spd?
Thanks again!
Transmissions are pretty similar, no real issues there. Same gear ratios but some minor parts are different if you need to rebuild it.
