Turbo oil return! Will what I’ve done work guys???
On my pte 6466 here I’ve put this -10an 90 fitting facing vertically then back to the pan with a 45 degree as you can see pictured.
will this work okay? Thanks.
I don't like it. Why the 90 off the turbo? I don't really see what that is accomplishing? The oil appears like its going to get backed up bc your line goes horizontal for a bit. It also looks long for no reason. An ideal drain is as short and straight as possible and also being that gravity is the only thing pulling the oil out, the more vertical the better. I hope this helps...not trying to be rude but hey you asked

yeah thanks for replying man! What would be an ideal fitting off the turbo, a 45? Yeah I’ll shorten it up! Is the feed under pressure? It must be from the head?
Yes, correct the oil feed is under pressure, hence why it can be so much smaller. My feed is -4 (1/4") and return -10(*5/8") which is a pretty standard setup. In general as I already mentioned the shorter and straighter path is the best option as all you have is gravity. If you had a dry sump with scavenge pumps its a different story bc they are putting a vac but in your case I see your pan so gravity it is.
An "ideal" fitting would be a straight but packaging and serviceability can make that next to impossible depending. So then next best is a 15 followed by 30 so on and so forth. I can't see what you're working with and what obstacles you need to get around. With my setup I am using a 15 degree on both sides(maybe a 30 by the pan I forget actually) and my line is probably about 8" long.
I would experiment with different fitting to see if you can get a more straight and vertical shot. Your current line almost looks like two legs to a triangle and seems you could just run the diagonal aka the hypotenuse.
I would do a 45 off the turbo, and keep the 45 on the pan, and try to point them towards each other more.
Yeah do this. Sean has installed far more turbo kits than me. But if you can rotate the fittings(they pivot) point them towards each other and you should end up with a straight shot for the hose.
If you have room, I would use a fitting that is as close to vertical as possible out of the turbo, Hard to tell in the pic, but it looks like the turbo is high enough from the pan fitting that even a 15* fitting may work.
