No boost taper on stock EVO

I installed an Autometer CF boost gauge a couple weeks ago. I have yet to see the boost taper down. My boost holds steady at 20psi all the way to redline in every gear....Except 5th....I havn't been that fast to get it to redline.

The only things I have done are a cone filter and grounding kit.

Everyone that has ridden in my car says it is really fast for a stock evo. I even keep up with the modded evos on the highway.

I bought my EVO new from the dealer with only 11 miles on it so I know nothing else was ever done to it.

Is this odd or have I done something wrong???

Why would anything be wrong if you have no taper?
Even if the pill was not installed, I believe you would have some slight taper while operating @ higher temps.

Glad to hear she is running real strong for you!

Nice, but Autometer gauges are not always the most accurate.

I have a feeling that most will blame the Autometer guage....

Have you had the boost checked while on a dyno? That would be a good way to see if your guage is telling the truth.

I agree autometer gages aren't the best. Try some others out there like blitz, greddy defi. some thing to that nature than you'll notice the tapper.

that's interesting... my best guess would have to be along with these other guys in saying that the guage could be off... but if that's not it, then i have no clue what else it could be haha

The guage is off?? So, it reads 16-20 psi as a stable 20psi?? that makes no sense.

I agree with slt. Even a guage that is showing the wrong boost would still show taper. Beside that, Appauldd says he can keep up with modified Evo's on the highway. Congrats, sounds like you got a strong running Evo!

I think Nate hit it on the head. Even if the gauge was crap, which I am not so sure of, you would still see taper, even if it was from a different starting number then than the 19 most of us see.

well how can it just not taper?? i mean you guys are saying that an evo that doesn't taper the boost is somehow a "strong" running evo...

if you bought it used.. there could be a manual boost controller already in there... some dealers can be real morons, trust me....

when i sold my 350z couple month ago, some dealers were real pros... being **** about the tinest things, going for a test drive, questioning me about every lil paint chip... some dealers just saw my car was waxed nicely... engine sounded great.. and offered a deal right there... if your gauge isnt lieing.. then go see if you have a MBC.. maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised hehehe
