Anyone try MSD Blaster Coil Packs yet?
Anyone try MSD Blaster Coil Packs yet?
I have a JDC kit with the oem Yaris Toyota coils. But they're from my old setup when I was around 500-600whp. I'm buttoning up the new setup that I'm estimating will make 900-1000whp, and I hear these denso coils can only handle 800-900, and I'm not even sure if that's even whp. So I'm looking to upgrade, but I don't want to just hop over to a gtr coil. MSD makes toyota coils with the same harness part # 82213. So I'm curious if anyone has any experience with them, maybe tuners have come across them, etc. Or if anyone has successfully pushed the oem denso coils to beyond their rated limit easily.
The only reason I didn't want to go that route just yet was because I'd have to get the extended boots for them, as well as the 3 pin pig tails and solder them in. Which I can do but at that point I'd rather just buy one new.
-There are setups out there that have been dynoed at the 1000hp mark on a dynojet on genuine oem yaris coils on e85. Coils efficiency is not measured by hp, but by output voltage or energy rating in mj vs ms at the plug vs mixture. Mixture is defined by the amount of boost vs specific fuel density and weight. A certain mj rating could be ok for a particular combo of boost and fuel density, but not enough for another. For instance if you are running ethanol or methanol, the density of the fuel and thus the fuel mixture overall , will be higher than pump gasoline or race gas, so one will need a stronger flame/spark.
-You can use genuine bosch coils, they will do an excess of a 1000 whp on a dynojet all day long.

-No modifications at all, these are Lexus/Tundra V8 4.7L coils. I run the same on my cop setup. Straight swap.
Part number is:
Bosch 0986AG0507
-Also if you cant find Bosch, you can use Bremi, also German, which makes an equivalent coil to the Bosch, but they are usually more expensive.
