Ignition system stopped working
Ignition system stopped working
Looking for some insight here. I was in the middle of a dyno tuning session and the tuner shut the car off, tried to start it back up and nothing. We assumed the starter flat out died, but it seems that is not the case.
When turning the ignition you can audibly hear/feel the starter solenoid activate. I can feel the shaft pop out if I hold my hand to the bell housing. We also changed the starter (which was about 3 months old) with another new reman unit. Nothing. I have not gone through any other steps yet but next is to check the ignition relays and fuses. I know one is located on the positive battery terminal wiring, can anyone point me to any others? Not that it matters because the car worked just fine for about a year this way, but its a fully gutted/caged rally car. We removed the steering column lock when building the car (I saw someone mention the white plastic ignition cylinder cracked and didn't turn all the way) so I will check that, but aside from that and a battery isolater switch (which was on) nothing else is changed. Could it have anything to do with the tephra mod the tuner installed? FWIW the car does run and drive if you pop start it. Appreciate the responses.

If the starter solenoid pops out, you need to look at the power supply and ground to the actual starter motor. If either have a problem, the starter motor will not have enough amps to turn the engine over. If power supply and ground is good, you have a bad starter motor. If the solenoid is working that means ignition switch and associated components are good. Once the solenoid kicks on, the starter motor needs sufficient power supply and ground supply to work. It might sounds dumb, but also test your battery. Everything electrical needs a good battery. Good luck!
