Newbie engine rebuild questions.

I have a couple questions as i get everything buttoned up. i have a MAP bottom end. i have 1 gasket left that i have no clue goes to. Its next to a 10mm for comparison. Next. there is a plate attachs to the cord of the crank sensor (i attached a photo of the sensor since i probably used the wrong

name). Where in the FSM does it show where this plate bolts in and i cant remember.

@raverthug Not sure of that seal, but kinda looks like a camshaft seal?

See attached SM for the crank sensor info

Thank you for the fast reply. It is the same size however I have already installed the 2 that go behind the cam gear. Is there one that goes where the cam sensor is?

Sorry, thought you were referring to the crank sensor plate.

Not sure about the seal nor that plate.

No, they were removed and the oil galleys pugged

That plate is the one that holds the cable for the crank sensor.

If I recall correctly those holes in that plate line up with the passenger side engine mount bracket. It shouldn't be too hard to match shapes....Likewise, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out where that seal goes. Check over the block and make sure everything has a seal.

I believe one of the bolts that hold the engine mount bracket runs through an oil galley and needs a little bit of sealant. Make sure you don't forget that or you'll have oil leaking. The bolt is shown in the FSM.

As for balance shaft deletes, unless you're building a huge HP monster I can't disagree more. I have Almost 60k on my daily driven 2.4L, I kept the balance shafts, and I would not go back. https://www.jackstransmissions.com/b...balance-shafts

I can't believe this balance shaft garbage gets shared to this day. It is patently wrong. OP, please disregard this video.

That seal *looks* like it is the seal for the rear balance shaft, your front cover likely already has the plug in it.

That plate is installed underneath the motor mount bracket. One of the bolts on the motor mount bracket requires thread sealer as it goes through to an oil return galley on some blocks (only some, likely due to core shift). The service manual shows which one.

Regarding Balance shafts

Balance shafts are meant for a stock bottom end. If you do not have a stock bottom end then they need to go. The Harmonics are not the same with aftermarket pistons/rods.

Its also a good idea if the engine is going to turn over 8500 to delete them.

This topic has been discussed to death so not to prolong that, but it's pretty universally accepted that removing the balance shafts will increase vibrations, so the argument of the balance shafts needing to go because of non-stock block is not accurate. Keeping in the balance shaft definitely reduces vibrations/engine harmonics, even if it's not specifically tuned for whatever aftermarket bottom end someone is using.
