EGR Hoses popping off valve -Troubleshooting
EGR Hoses popping off valve -Troubleshooting
Twice in the 15 years I have owned the 2006 Evo RS IX one of the small hoses on the EGR valve has popped off.
I have cleared the codes and replaced the hose onto the nipple.
Now that it has happened twice, I assume something has failed. No recent changes to anything related to the engine.
The EGR valve when connected does not throw any codes or SES lights. Only 72k on the car.
The EGR vale is operated by vacuum so there should be no force to pop off the hose.
MY guess is that the MAP sensor or the EGR solenoid have failed. Bad MAP could allow the opening the EGR solenoid when the engine was still under boost and supply pressure to pop off the hoses. Bad EGR solenoid could cause boost leak into EGR and pop the hoses.
Anyone have an idea as to tell what is going on with this problem?
Thanks
Alan

Do a search on the forum, you will see for yourself.
Also, get new hoses. They get brittle and not as pliable with age, which also contributes to this. Plus, again, use a ziptie.
Maybe it's only supposed to see vacuum, but that hose popping off is super common. I guess you could try replacing the "EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid valve" since that's the only thing that could even be faulty if that's the case. Zip tie seems to have worked just fine for most folks, myself included.

When you ask for help, be open to the knowledge.

In very rare cases the MAP sensor is part of the problem. Most cases the EGR solenoid is the problem. I do not know how to tell the difference without disassembly.
I would like to avoid pulling the EGR solenoid or shot gunning parts. I was hoping that somebody had an idea that was not in search results or the shop manual.
Instead I am getting snarky thin skinned people posting proud of their band aid fixes. If that is all there is then let this thread die, you are no help on this issue.

You asked the forum for help. A couple of members of this forum that have been working, building, tuning, racing, and driving these cars for over eighteen years came forward and informed you of what to do to remedy this issue. These are not "band aid" fixes, but actual fixes from encountering this exact same issue on many many many of these cars over those said eighteen years.
You are too proud to receive this knowledge correctly, and already have your mind set on some other reason why this is happening so you completely ignore and dismiss the actual reason and remedy based on actual real world knowledge of this issue.
Again, for the people in the back:
1. Put new hoses on. Use OEM or make sure the non OEM hoses you are using are the correct size and right material. The hoses get less pliable with age so they don't grip as well and can slide off. Especially in this area that sees a lot of heat.
2. No, it's not because of positive pressure. See #1
3. Zip tie new (or current) hoses with small zipties.
I've done the above process on dozens of CT9A's at this point. It works. It's not a band aid fix if you have logical problem solving skills.
Good luck sir.
