Apexi Power intake filter

I am sure a few of you have installed the Apexi power intake filter on your Evolution. I am looking for any impressions, good or bad, that you have on this setup.

Thanks

I installed mine a few months ago. It's definitely one of the best intakes out in the market. Here are some impressions in combination with a catback:

-No more high RPM power lose
-Turbo spools much faster
-Engine revs freer
-Great sound (you can hear the factory BOV)
-Easy to install

I'd highly recommend this intake!

It's great

I had one in my wrx STI in Japan and it was great. I have an Evo in the States now and so last time I went back to Japan I picked one up at the Local Autobachs. It works great and you can hear the stock wastegate. That's not the BOV you can hear. If you want to hear the BOV the only way you will hear it on the stock car is to buy an aftermarket one. I know that was off topic but i just thought I would let you guys know for people that don't know the difference between the BOV and the wastegate. Anyway, you can you get those for the EVO now in the states? I know when I was looking for one about six months ago they were not available yet. Let me know where you were planning on buying it. By the way it is kind of a pain in the *** to put in but no impossible. It was also rated for the best flow and filtering quality by Option magazine one of Japans best tuner mags.

that sound is the blowoff valve recirculating the air it just let out back into the intake. the wastegate doesnt make any sound if its internal. correct me if i am wrong.

You are absolutely correct.

I have an Apex-i intake on my MR2 and just installed one on an EVO yesturday. Its an awesome intake for the EVO, the turbo spool much more audible, spool up time is also a bit faster. You can hear the stock BPV with it, its awesome. Plus Apex-i makes one of the best filters I've ever used.

the only time u can hear a wastegate internally is with a large diameter exhaust, with no cat and a very free flowing intake with some hardpipes... my old gsx use to scream when the waste gate opened i swear you could literally hear it open it sounded almost like vtec on a honda it kicked @$$ the swoosh sound is the stock BOV and yes you can hear it ... it sounds like @$$ compaired to an aftermarket though

not that i notice, this filter seems to be fine. The day before that, i put on the Greddy Type S. That seems to be where most of my frustration sits, but as of right now it seems to be doing fine. With the filter by itself id say you are fine from problems like that.

No idleling problems. Just what everyone else said, turbo spools up quicker and you hear the recirculating stock bov much better.

There was some idle unsteadiness in my car after installing the intake and resetting the ECU. It used to intermittently jump up to 1200-1500rpm for no reason. It took about 10 days for this issue to corrected itself. I assume the computer needed to re-adjust to the new intake.

Dr Fob...check all your hose connections and make sure they are tight. If there is a leak, you'll get erratic idle.

Jimbo,

Originally, I also thought about possible vacuum leaks, but the idle problem had mysterious corrected itself. Thanks for your input anyway!!

Yeah it definately was a pain in the *** to install...especially if you install it with the A'PEXi aluminum air box. Dry filters like this one and the one from PE in my opinion are the only way to go.
