Evo VIII AIT (air intake temperature) sensor install
I’m going to installing a Apexi Power FC D-jetro to my Evo VIII gsr in the coming weeks and plan on going mafless as I understand it I need and AIT sensor installed which I will have to wire into my MAF plug what I want to know is can I install the sensor anywhere without having to drill and tap or welding a bung on to pipes (basically is there already a location suitable for the AIT sensor I believe the GM sensor is 3/8 NPT I’m not against using a different sensor if there is a better option for me any info would be great. Thanks
Drill and tap your inlet manifold in the molded boss shown. This is the best place for monitoring air temp for SD, plus it uses the location that Mitsubishi designed for this purpose. If you don't have the energy to pull the inlet off completely, pull your throttle body and then insert a carboard tube into the inlet with a slot cut out of it to catch the shavings
Here's my GM AIT installed:

Yer I have seen several people put it in that location but I really don’t what to drill/tap the inlet manifold and risk anything getting in there, I think I’m going to try shorten the small hose shoot off on my hks hard pipe an just hose clip it in place with the silicone hose

That approach may not work as the sensor element has to be in the air flow to read the temp. You will struggle to seal the silicone tube against the sensor threads.
If you already have the UICP off do the job once and do it right - get a boss welded in for the sensor.
Only 50% of the thread will have silicone hose the other 50% at the top of the ait is a flat surface see pic below and the bit that the air flow hits will be inside the main air flow of the IC pipe I would have a bung welded but finding a decent welder where I live that can weld aluminium is not easy I know that would be the best option if it was available to me
