Camshaft Position Sensor Install?

There's been some general discussion about replacing a bad camshaft position sensor. Can anyone provide a detailed set of instructions? What tools are needed, what (if anything) needs to be removed to get to the sensor, any possible problems related to replacing it?

Thanks in Advance.

I believe the process is the same with the Lancer. You will need a wrench with a 10mm socket and that is it. Really straightforward process. I changed mine in about 5 minutes, if that.

AirQuez explained it right to the point. The detailed instructions would be: find the bolt, turn it to the left. unplug the sensor. pull the sensor out. then repeat the exact opposite with the new sensor. It's a 10mm bolt, and if you have problems doing this, I'm officially concerned for your mental well-being.

I understand that it's a pretty easy deal. Would it be possible to post a photo of exactly where it's located? Does anything (air filter housing etc...) have to be removed to get to it?

Oh. Please be concerned with my mental well-being anyway

Thanks.

I just had the same problem (posted on previous thread) and ordered the part.

AllData.com (DIY section, subsciption for repair manual) recommends taking the air filter. Doesn't look liek a bad idea - theres only about fifteen degrees to move the ratchet. I wasn't able to loosen the bolt much - may have been my old rachet.

I was able to retighten it; interestingly, the service engine light (code P340) hasn't come back on since. I was having some severe vibration from my tires; maybe this could have loosened it?

In any event, how many people have had this code come up, and how many have had to replace the sensor?

Shouldn't this be a warranty repair? Unless of course you've had it voided out.

As I have searched the site and the internet for more helpful information, I am yet to find an actual picture of the device installed on the car in question. I am still confused on where it is.

it on the other side of the cam shaft...one side is the cam sprocket, the other side is the cam angle sensor housing...i can go to a picture if you need, but it should be plain as day if you know what a camshaft is and where it's located.

Make sure you can be without the car for at least a day. The repair takes 5 mins but you have to seal it with rtv which means 24 hr cure time.
