Evo 9 MR Clutch Replacement Recommendation for 2022
Hey Everyone,
So starting to notice my stock clutch is starting to slip (It was a good one to last 60k miles). Car only makes 300 hp and isn't crazy modded obviously and I obviously don't drive the **** out of it.
At some point I do want to mod my car some more and make up to 400 hp but nothing more than that. So I'm looking for something that isn't going to chatter or make my left leg bigger than my right leg that can handle 400 hp and be great for daily driving.
I've been searching the forums for a couple of hours now but the only drawback with owning an older car is that the threads are on the older side and products either discontinued or something better has came out since then I would assume.
Thank you in advance for your input and/or suggestions.

Well as recently as I think yesterday this same question was asked over in the Evo X sub. You want tried and true go for the ACT HD/XTSS PP w/ Organic sprung hub disk. If you want the new tech there is the ACT twin disk. https://www.xclutchusa.com/ also somewhat recently popped up on my radar. Advantage of twin disk is more power holding for less pedal effort. Twin disks traditionally have their downsides which the new stuff claims to deal with, but time will tell.
P.S. While you are in there, delete the factory restrictor on the hydraulic clutch line.

I have a CC Stage 2 with sprung disc. Feels like stock but holds better. Been good the last year or so, but if i change again might try something more aggressive if my HP is increases.

I replaced it with the Exedy twin. It has held up wonderfully so far and the pedal feel is similar to the HDSS I would say. Both are slightly heavier than stock but very drivable in traffic.
I'd gladly pick either again depending on power and use goals.
Not the OP, but have used both the ACT HDSS and now have the Exedy twin. The HDSS was great, good pedal feel and I got about 20k miles out of it before I built the motor, went to an FP red and then immediately cooked it with just over 500 wftlbs.

And: agreed. The HDSS is a GREAT clutch. Pretty much all I've used since 2006, in any car I own. I'm a fan
I've been on XTSS since ~2007, love it. I woulda gone HDSS, but I didn't want to lose all of that hard-earned muscle definition from my Fox Mustang clutch. Every day was leg day with that thing in traffic.
I had one of those in a car for a bit. It was funny to watch other people drive it (it also had an unsprung 6-puck). I hurt my ankle and couldn't drive it. That was a heavy damned clutch.
Sounds about right. The HDSS is rated at 530ftlbs, which I'm sure isn't at the wheels. So, figure 400-410ftlbs at the wheels. 500 is waaaay over it's limit. That poor thing.

I used to have a picture of what it looked it but it is the worst I have ever seen a clutch disc.
I LOVED it while I had it on my stock block green setup though. Thing was tough as nails and easy to drive. Perfect for a moderate street setup.
