Cracked Head?

Took off my head and sent it for resurfacing right away due to water leaked into the piston which i assumed from a lifted head. When i got the head back noticed there is something which looks like a crack. Please see the pic. Does this mean this head is gone and i need a new one?

Certainly looks like you need to have the head inspected by the machine shop. Penetrating dye may be used to confirm if that is a crack

That pic certainly look suspicious & its right over where it mates to the cylinder bore

Thats how i see it anyways. Keep us posted please

That's corrosion not a crack. Not sure if it needs to be resurfaced though.

it was just resurfaced. that's when i noticed it after those carbons are no longer there. i can actually feel it when i run through my nails over it that there's some sort of crack, and yes its right where it mates the cylinder bore.

Was going to ask you about the finger nail test. A good machine shop should be familiar w/crack testing aluminum. One would have thought the folks that did the resurfacing would have seen that?

Did you consider asking them about this issue?

Exactly my thought, what kind of machine shop resurfaces a head and doesn't mention a crack!

If it is a crack then they should be able to weld it up and resurface it.
