How long did you starter motor last?

Hi everyone, my first post

I have a 2005 Evo 9 FQ340 that's done 110k miles and it's starting to slow crank. Whilst i've ordered a battery, part of me is thinking it might be the starter motor becoming a bit tired.

The question I have is, is replacing the starter motor expected for a car of my age/mileage? How long did your starter motor last before you had to replace it?

Thanks everyone!

J

Replaced the original 2006 starter in 2021 with an AutoZone unit. No problems to report after about 1 year of use.

original 2006 starter replaced a month ago, after just 15000 miles.
I had the same slow starting issue and then eventually just didnt crank at all.

OEM starter on my evo 9 went out after about 140k miles or so. Went and got it rebuilt locally and she's good as new.

I think it's less miles, years, or starts but the environment that it lives in. Places that use salt on the road seem to have these go bad much quicker especially with their location exposed on the bottom of the engine. I replaced mine ('03) back in '07 because it was bad but those 4 years were Ohio salt winters. I haven't replaced it since.

I had to replace the starter in my 8 (2003) pretty early on. I wasn't keeping good records back then, but I'de guess somewhere around 2007-09. Southern California Climate, there wasn't any corrosion or anything. Maybe just a bad batch of starters from the factory? I went to start it after work, and it was dead. Luckily, some guys passing through showed pity on me trying to roll start it myself and gave me a push.
