one hard launch and, clutch maybe gone?

Thought after 7600 easy miles, I would see what it would really do from a stand still. I reved to only about 5500rpm and dumped the clutch. I't seemed to launch hard but really smelled the clutch burning? is that normal? and now the clutch is acting weird when I try and get the car going, kind of shutters, don't notice any slipping, just the shuttering getting going.

ah the evo has a heavy plate so i'm not sure if chatter is normal or not... but my guess is it has some scoring on the flywheel/pressure plate and thats where the chatter is comming from... mines chattered from day one so i ahve no idea whats going on with the clutch but it does it most when cold.. i wish mitsu would jsut recall the damn clutch and the detonation

Burning smell doesn't mean your clutch is gone. When it starts to slip, then you'll know.

it's probably because it scared u when u dumped ur clutch. It's just a fake feeling. I felt the same way when that happened but my clutch is quite fine.

Your clutch is likely glazed from your launch. Just drive it around easy for a little while. It will go away as you drive it normally.

No need to panic, but unless you plan on upgrading the clutch real soon, avoid high rpm launches. It will progressivcely wear down the clutch and probably tranny

clutches will only wear when they're heated up and slipped, no? The same concept with brake pads i think. When they're hot and worked a lot - like going down a long downhill and braking - it will wear the brakes out faster.

Basically, simply take it easy on it after a hard launch. Our clutch's are designed to slip to avoid drivetrain shock, problem is a single disk clutch with this type of setup doesn't provide enough surface area to diffuse the heat, although our disc itself is of good quality.

You glazed the clutch disc/flywheel causing it to chatter. Too many people do not have a clue about how to manage their cars. The evo driveline is not designed for NHRA burnouts. You will learn soon enough when you start paying buku $$$s for your misinformation The next time you pass a genius who tells you to jump on it what ya gonna do????
