Late Model 4G63 swap into 1990 Galant VR-4

Hello,

I have an old 90s Galant with a 4G63 and it has quite a fair amount of miles on it. At some point I will probably need to put in a new motor and gearbox as I do not plan to sell this car. Is it possible to put an Evo 8/9 4G63 and the 6 speed into my Galant?

I’ve not seen any posts about this swap being done, but are the dimensions different or would this swap be in any way difficult? Firstly for just the straight engine swap and secondly for a gearbox swap from my current 5 speed to the Evo 9 6 speed.

Many thanks!

The timing cover is on the other side as well as the trans. Would need a Custom subframe. Maybe Racefab in NZ has a solution. I know they have a kit to mount later model Evo (4+) into the Evo 1-3 which has the DSM style drivetrain/motor layout.

New subframe, N/S bar, custom front axles, custom exhaust, cutting the rails for transmission clearance, welding mounts to the chassis, intercooler piping, redoing the whole wiring harness, battery placement, new driveshaft, finding a rear diff ratio that will work, and on and on and on. It's adding 10x the complexity to what is really a simple problem. Rebuild your 6-bolt 4G63.
